I feel that it would
be criminal to this tribe of Indians for the Office to authorize Robert J.
Hamilton to represent the tribe at Washington ,
and the Indians feel the same. I would respectfully request that the Office
instruct me relative to this matter and, in case a delegation is needed or
wanted in Washington by the Honorable
Commissioner of Indian Affairs that Hamilton
be declined the authority to come as one of the delegates. He is simply an
agitator and has caused more trouble in this tribe of Indians than any other person.
His work among the Indians is certainly very detrimental to their best
interest. In order that these people may know the wishes of the Office in this
matter, I respectfully request that I receive instructions relative thereto, by
wire, at the earliest possible date. Very Respectfully, Arthur McFatridge,
Supt. & Spl. Disb. Agent.”
Robert Hamilton wrote Blackfeet Chiefs Wolf Plume,
White Antelope, Curley Bear, and Black Weasel from Washington D.C. “My Dear
Friends, I beg to acknowledge receipt of your joint letter setting forth the
reasons why you object to the McFatridge delegation, and upholding my attitude
concerning our affairs. In reply thereto, I wish to say that I am happy to
inform the people upon the Blackfeet reservation that the said McFatridge
Delegation have swung to our ranks, supporting our contentions, thereby
repudiating their and the outside public whom they are supported to represent,
in plain English I have got them whipped.-The Sacred Buffalo Vision by Robert J. Juneau and Robert C. Juneau
